ReboundU is a student-led not-for-profit initiative dedicated to supporting injured student-athletes through their recovery journeys, addressing aspects of mental, emotional, and physical health.

Our Story

ReboundU was founded by Maia Hanes at the age of 15 after experiencing two major knee injuries.

In 2023, after earning a spot on her high school's Junior Varsity Girls Soccer Team, Maia was hit with the news that she had severely torn her knee's meniscus due to the combination of soccer and a birth anomaly she never knew she had called a discoid meniscus. Eventually in 2024, Maia tore her meniscus in her left knee and underwent surgery again.

After 8 months of recovery combined, she realized that along with the physical pain there was also a huge mental and emotional toll. Even when receiving much support from family and peers, she still felt alone and disconnected especially in a space that often only focuses on physical recovery. These experiences showed her that injured student-athletes deserve more than just treatment but also support covering every aspect of health, a sense of community and belonging all especially from people who have been in their shoes.

That's why Maia created ReboundU.

ReboundU is a not-for-profit student-led initiative created for injured-student athletes who seek a community of people who really understand what they're going through. We offer peer support sessions, send out "Bounce Back Boxes" to shine light to the recovery process, provide access to recovery tools and empowering stories from athletes who've been there too.

An injury is not the end of the road, it is just the beginning. ReboundU makes sure students don't have to rebound by themselves
